Beautiful July day playing croquet at the club. We had a bald eagle looking over the game. These croquet open play sessions continue through the end of September and have been very popular.

Bocce Sundays
Some people want MORE COWBELL, other folks just want more bocce. By popular demand Bocce Sundays are starting up. Starting this Sunday (5/16) at 1 p.m. there will be members open play bocce at the courts. No signup or anything, just show up and there might be other folks that might want to play a game or two. This will be running at least through September.
Please check the calendar before you go just to make sure there is not another activity like a rental or a bocce tournament happening at that time. Watch out for Bigfoot, I hear he’s pretty good.

Website Updates
Did a little updating to the website by adding an “About” menu item at the top. Clicking on this link takes to information about contacting WPLBC, the club location and information on the public open play dates and times. I also added a “Sports” menu item that replaces the three separate menu options for each sport.
In addition I added a history page with various articles about the club and scans of historical documents and a photo album.
38th Festa Italiana Bocce Tournament 2025
Saturday, September 27th and Sunday, September 28th
This bocce tournament is one of the major events of Festa and we want you and your team to join the fun!
This year the tournament is on the main floor of the Armory. We invite your club or organization to participate in the tournament with as many teams of four as you wish. Depending on the number of teams, it will be a Round Robin or Double Elimination Contest.
Many players find it hard to be available for a two day tournament, therefore we plan to break it into two categories similar to last year. You are asked to place your team in one of the following categories:
RECREATIONAL: For teams that play on a casual basis or spur of the moment – this category plays every year on Saturday.
MASTERS: For teams that regularly play together in most tournaments – this category plays every year on Sunday.
Play will begin each day at 9 AM and all teams must be registered by 9 AM. Latecomers may forfeit their chance to play after that time. The Bocce committee reserves the right to reassign a team to another category if necessary. You will be advised by phone if this occurs.
Teams may be coed and should have their own equipment. The entry fee is $120 per team.
Prize money will be provide for top four teams.

2025 National Croquet Day
2025 Las Vegas Bocce Tourney Results
On Saturday, April 26, eight teams competed in a “Vegas Style” club bocce tournament at Woodland Park.
The Vegas format features three-person teams. In each frame, six people (3 per team) roll from the same end and every player throws two balls. That totals 12 balls on the court at once. The resulting chaos features daunting congestion and many collisions of balls. Fun!
Play started under cloudy skies and finished under bright sun that brought temperatures up to near 70 degrees – exactly the tonic needed for a blissful day of early-season bocce. Laughs were plenty but competition was keen. See results and winner photos below:
2024 Bocce Tree Event
Under clear skies and overall nice weather on Sunday 9/8 the club Tree Event occurred. It was the last WPLBC bocce tournament event of the season.
Teams of two were made by random draw of the cards and each team played each other and that made for a very competitive day. Two teams ended up 4-1 with the tie breaker being head-to-head play.
Carlo and Sal came out on top as 2024 champions and divided $60. 2nd place went to Erich & Wick and divided $40. Finishing 3rd were Bob and Gail and divided $20. Congratulations to all!
2024 Special Olympics Bocce Event
On Saturday September 7th WPLBC member Mark Charonis hosted a Special Olympics family bocce tournament. Bob, Brian and Tony also supported the event. A good time was had by all.

2024 Lord Bocce Competition
On August 25th, 2024 the champions of 2024 Lord Bocce competition was determined. Christopher won this year for his third straight Lord Bocce championship. Robert finished 2nd and Phoebe 3rd.
Of the 8 competing for the Lord Bocce title on Sunday our club ladies made a strong statement with 3 ladies in the final 8 and Phoebe finishing 3rd.
2024 Tony Ricconoscuito Bocce Classic
This annual event happened Saturday, July-27. The format is 4-person teams with a round robin consisting of seeding round (3 game guarantee) then single elimination money finals. Here were the top 3 winners.
2024 Ryder Cup
Congratulations to the 20 players that represented Washington State in the 2024 WA Vs. OR Ryder Cup Challenge on July 13th in Gresham OR. The majority of the WA team were members of the Woodland Park Bocce Club. The final was WA 19 wins to OR 16 wins. This is the first time the WA team has beat the OR team in this event since 2010.
The conditions were warm but tolerable. A good time had by all with many players looking forward to taking part in next year’s event.
WPLBC Featured in Seattle Times
The WPLBC was recently featured in the Seattle Times Pacific NW Magazine section. The story includes a history of the Woodland Park Lawn Bowling Club and describes how people are embracing the laid-back atmosphere and social nature of these games, which include bocce, croquet, and lawn bowls.
Bocce Summer Solstice Doubles Results
The bocce summer solstice doubles event was held on June 22nd, 2024 and started just after 4pm and finished just before 1 am(!). It was well attended and the weather was great. Nine 2-person teams took part in this bocce competition. There were two groups of round robin play with 6 teams advancing to single elimination money round.
Erich & Sal were repeat winners making it two in a row for them. They went 5-1 for the night and took away the championship prize.
Bre & Brian came away with second place. Both teams were solid all night.
Chuck & Christopher completed the top 3.

This is a yearly tournament that is part of Festa Italiana Seattle at the Seattle Center. Saturday play is the Recreational Division. Sunday play is for the Experienced Teams Division. This event is not organized by our Club nor held at our site, but many of our members participate each year in this tournament.
